Everything is okay. Your family is safe. There is no immediate problem to solve. Yet your mind keeps searching for what might go wrong next. If that sounds familiar, it can be exhausting to live in a state of constant anticipation.
Sometimes this pattern grows out of seasons when life felt unpredictable or stress lasted so long that staying alert began to feel normal. Preparing for problems may seem responsible, but there is a difference between taking wise action and emotionally living through disasters that have not happened.
The next time your thoughts race ahead, look around and name what is true right now. Notice your breathing. Remind yourself: “That’s a possibility. It isn’t my reality right now.” Then ask, “What needs my attention today?” If there is a responsible step to take, take it. If not, practice returning to the present.
In Matthew 6, Jesus teaches about tomorrow’s worries without pretending life will always be easy. We can trust God for today even when we do not know what tomorrow will bring. You do not have to solve every possible future to be faithful in this moment.
